Rachel Lai
Hi, I'm Rachel! I'm a senior at Cal, and I'm the Director of UCCC this year. I lead our planning team and oversee the decision-making for our conference. We are all so excited to welcome you to UCCC 2018! Please know that we're praying for you each step of the way.
When I was asked to lead UCCC, I hesitated big time. I struggle with letting go and trusting in God's plan, and I felt (and continue to feel) unprepared for the role. When I have my doubts, Jesus never fails to comfort me through the Blessed Sacrament or by speaking through others. I am so blessed to be surrounded by the encouraging and supportive community at Newman Hall. More specifically, Evan Cummings, a Paulist Seminarian, helped open my eyes with the phrase: "God doesn't call the equipped; he equips the called." If you don't see a stop sign, keep going! God's calling each of us to do great things, we just have to let go and allow the Holy Spirit to work through us.
Xavier Aparico
I’m Xavier Aparicio, a 4th year student here at Cal and the Logistics and Programming Coordinator for UCCC 2018! As such, I am responsible for keynote/workshop speakers and for making sure that your visit to Berkeley for UCCC 2018 goes as smoothly as possible.
I got the call to join the Executive Team from Rachel Lai (my now girlfriend! God is good!) one day in early spring of 2017. In all honesty, I was not thrilled per se to join the team, but I realized that I didn’t have a good reason to say no to God and His calling for me. And that is exactly what I’ve learned on my spiritual journey over the last couple of months. We often don’t have a reason to say no to our Lord, and even when we think our reasons are valid, I can assure you they aren’t. So have faith, be open to the wonders of His plans, and say yes to Him a little more. I know I’m learning to.
Ariana Rutledge
Hey everybody! I'm Ariana, a senior studying Classical Civilizations and Linguistics, and I'm the leader of the Liturgy Committee for this year's conference. This will be my fourth time at UCCC! Attending this conference in the past has been an unforgettable opportunity for me to grow in friendship and faith with other university students from across California, and I'm overjoyed to be able to help you all have the chance to join in this experience.
In my role of planning the liturgies, my goal is to make sure you have everything you need to more fully participate in Adoration and the sacraments. May the Holy Spirit guide you during your weekend in Berkeley, and may it be for you a time of personal and spiritual growth.
Leanne Jarvis
Hello fellow UCCCer's! I'm Leanne! I am a senior at Cal and am heading up finances for this year's conference. It has been such a joy getting to help plan this year's conference, and I am so excited to meet each of you. UCCC as well as other Catholic conferences have been pivotal to my faith journey during college. Each opportunity for a retreat or conference that I have said 'yes' to has never failed to lead me to a deeper encounter with God's love.
The outpouring of the Holy Spirit is truly a gift and an integral part of our relationship with God, and I hope this year's conference will help us all gain more love and awareness of the ways the Holy Spirit is working in and through our lives. We can't wait to welcome you to Berkeley!
Vincent Escueta
Hola friends!!! I’m Vincent Escueta and I am the leader of the Promotions Committee for this year’s UCCC. I enjoy movies, adventures, hikes, basketball, bowling, food, not studying, and most importantly, my relationship with the Lord. It’s been an honor and a blessing to be a part of the planning process and I am so thankful for this opportunity.
The Holy Spirit is a beautiful part of our faith and an integral piece in our relationship with God. It called me to see the beauty that is Jesus Christ, it called me to place God in the center of life, and it called me to come back to the Catholic Church in college. Through a journey that has been filled with fruit and fervor, I felt that God has poured so much joy and happiness in my life. I hope I can use this opportunity as a leader of UCCC to pour out all that God has given to me and offer it back to him in service of trying to bring people close to Christ as well.
Zac Dehkordi
Sup y’all. Its your boi Zac Dehkordi. I am a third year Computer Science major here at Cal and I helped Vincent make this website you are currently on!
Here at Cal, we believe in fostering a community of Catholics to grow in faith and fellowship with each other. We planned this years UCCC to do just that and I’m hella excited for it. We’ve brought out the best of the best Catholic speakers in the country just for you. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to deepen your spiritual lives and make new friends. (be my friend!!!!!)
Jaehee Ahn
Hey there! I’m Jaehee Ahn, a 3rd year architecture major at Berkeley and the graphic designer for UCCC 2018. Art has been my passion for my entire life, and I’m so thankful that I am able to combine my passion and my faith to help serve such a great community. I know that the UCCC team has planned such great things, and I can’t wait for them to come out into the light.
For many people, college is a turbulent time in terms of faith—it definitely has been for me. UCCC will definitely be a blessing time for college students to be able to deepen their faiths, but also to be able to meet other brothers and sisters in Christ to help them along in the process. I hope to see you all at the conference!
